We should never be presumptuous in any endeavor; especially with the spiritual upbringing of children in Christ. The Bible says, “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.“ (Psalms 127:3-5 ESV)
We are also reassured by God through His Word that ministering to children is not futile. Paul tells Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:14-15, “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” ESV
Children are encouraged to praise and worship God as in Matthew 21:15-16, “But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant, and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read, “‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise’?” ESV
Finally, it is the mission of the church to work with the family to foster, encourage and promote obedience to Christ and the commands found within the Bible. Such as in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” ESV
